Health Desk – 28 Mar, 2021: 35 more deaths, 3,908 more cases in 24 hours till Sunday
Bangladesh recorded another 3,908 new cases till Sunday morning, the highest single day increase in 8 months.
Another 35 deaths were logged in the last 24 hours. Saturday witnessed the highest single-day increase (39) in the last three months.
On December 15, the country had recorded more Covid-19 casualties – 40 deaths. And on July 2 last year, the country had higher daily infections – 4,019.
With the latest figure, the number of total fatalities now stands at 8,904, and the total number of infections at 595,714 as of Sunday morning, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a press release.
Sunday was the sixth consecutive day that the daily tally of new cases crossed the 3,500-mark.
Since July 2, 2020, the number of daily cases remained below the 3,500-mark (except July 15 – 3,533 cases), until March 23, when the number of daily infections stood at 3,554.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 17.65% while the overall infection rate in the country stands at 12.98%.
The month of March is seeing an upward trend of rising cases day by day. On March 14, 1,159 new Covid-19 cases were recorded, after two months of lower rate of infections.
The DGHS said 22,425 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours while a total of 22,136 samples were tested in government and private testing facilities.
To date, as many as 4,588,830 tests have been conducted in the country.
