Health Desk-- Feb 27, 2018: Speakers at a seminar on Monday urged the authorities concerned to take necessary measures for ensuring participation of women with disabilities in the country's overall development, reports BSS.
The speakers made the call at the seminar titled "Inclusion of Women with Disabilities in the Overall Development of the State" at the Daily Star Bhaban in the city.
Women with Disabilities Development Foundation (WDDF) organized the seminar that was addressed, among others, by former advisor of caretaker government and Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Chairman Advocate Sultana Kamal, Joint Secretary of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry Md Ehsan-e-Elahi and former president of Women for Women Zakia K Hassan.
Presided over by WDDF president Shirin Akhter, Executive Director of the organization Ashrafun Nahar Mishti presented a keynote paper at the seminar.
Addressing the seminar, Sultana Kamal underscored the need for increasing overall facilities for the women with disabilities to incorporate them in the mainstream development.
In her keynote paper, Ashrafun Nahar said 96 per cent of women with disabilities are more likely to experience physical and emotional abuse and sexual assault.
