Health Desk: 7th Nov’18: Bangladesh has opportunities to address the challenges of nutrition security though the country has made significant strides in food security, said experts.
It is also needed to develop a long-term plan to ensure nutrition security, they said at an international conference on nutrition which ended in Dhaka on Monday.
Food Minister Qamrul Islam was the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the ‘Second International Conference on Nutrition’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on Sunday.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Food jointly organised the two-day conference in association with United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
FAO Deputy Director Günter Hemrich delivered a keynote speech while Food Planning and Monitoring Unit Director General Badrul Arefin made the address of welcome on the occasion. Food Ministry Secretary
Among others, World Food Programme Deputy Country Director Alpha Bha, Unicef representative Edouard Beigbeder, FAO representative David Doolan and World Health Organization representative Bardan Jung Rana were present on the occasion.
Nearly 200 representatives from government and private agencies participated at the event and shared knowledge of food and nutrition security.
