Health Desk-- 21 June, 2018: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said that her government is planning to formulate a new law and form a separate court to ensure highest punishment for drug kingpins and patrons.
The premier made the statement in her scripted reply to a question from independent lawmaker Rustam Ali Farazi during her question-answer session in parliament on Wednesday.
She said, “A new law of the Narcotics Control Act 2018 will be prepared soon to ensure capital punishment for drug kingpins and patrons”.
“The government has a plan to form a separate court to deal with the cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act 1990,” she also said.
Sheikh Hasina said masterminds of drug dealing are released easily if they are tried under the Narcotics Control Act 1990.
“According to the existing law, death penalty is the highest punishment for drug dealing, but there is a less chance of taking legal action against the masterminds if they are caught without drugs,” she said.
