Health Desk-- 12th June, 2018: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Monday told the parliament that the government would enact a new law to ensure capital punishment to drug dons.
To a question, the minister said, “A draft of Narcotics Control Act-2018 having a provision of capital punishment has been framed to bring drug patrons of drug trade and drug godfathers to book”.
He said though the existing law styled Narcotics Control Act-1990 has a same provision, the drug dons or masterminds escape it due to some loopholes.
As per the existing law, there is no chance to take measures against anyone involved with the trade, if drug substance is not found in possession.
The Home Minister also said that a total of 35,112 accused drug trader were arrested from January to March in 2018 in connection with 27, 340 cases. Over 3.28 crore pieces of Yaba were recovered during the time, he added.
