Nasim urges Sri Lanka to recruit medical professionals

Health Desk--- 15 July, 2017: Health Minister Mohammad Nasim on Friday requested the visiting Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena to recruit more Bangladeshi medical professionals for his country's health sector.

The minister made the request as he paid a courtesy call on Sirisena at his hotel suite in the capital on Friday afternoon.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues, including exchange of experiences in primary health sector between the two countries.

Emerging from the meeting, he told the reporters, "Sri Lanka has achieved tremendous success in primary health sector especially for combating Malaria and Dengu fever. So, we have expressed our eagerness to exchange of experience in this regard".

The Sri Lankan President also requested Bangladesh for taking initiatives for admitting more Sri Lankan students into Bangladesh's medical colleges, Nasim adds.

Responding to a question, he said that Sri Lanka has already given allotment of a land to a Bangladeshi private sector Pharmaceutical company to set up a joint venture pharmaceutical company in Sri Lanka.

In this connection, he said Bangladeshi pharmaceutical companies have been exporting their products to Sri Lanka for the last 20 years. At present, he said at least 11 Bangladeshi companies have been exporting pharmaceutical products to Sri Lanka.

Nazmul Hasan Papon, MP, among others, were present in the meeting with the health minister.
