Identify people's lack of confidence in health services: Amu

Health Desk July 17, 2016: Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Saturday called upon the physicians to find out causes of people's lack of confidence in country's medical services and take effective steps to resolve those.

He made the call speaking as chief guest at a reunion organized by Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Alumni Trust at DMC auditorium in the city marking the 71st founding anniversary of the college. 

Presided over by DMC Alumni Trust Chairman Dr. M. Shafiqur Rahman, the function was also addressed by Prime Minister's former adviser on health and family welfare Prof. Syed Modasser Ali, former MP and Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad former Secretary General Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Secretary General M. Iqbal Arsalan, DMC Director Brig. Dr. Mizanur Rahman and DMC Principal Prof. M Ismail Khan.

The industries minister said a healthy and strong workforce is necessary to make Bangladesh an industrial middle-income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041.

Ensuring expected services in the health sector is essential to develop such a workforce, he added.

The present government is implementing expensive programmes for the development of health sector, the minister said, adding that child and maternal mortality rates have decreased remarkably in the country because of various government initiatives.

Medical profession is a noble profession, Amir Hossain Amu said and urged new generation doctors to know about the achievements of the older members of DMC Alumni Trust.
