Samia Huq: 09 February 2018: The three-day Asia Pharma Expo-2018 began at the International Convention City, Bashundhara in Dhaka on Thursday with the aim of showcasing the latest medical equipment and health products.
Health and family welfare minister Mohammed Nasim inaugurated the fair while its state minister Zahid Maleque, drug administration directorate general director general Mustafizur Rahman and BAPI secretary general SM Shafiuzzaman were also present, among others, at the ceremony.
The Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceuticals Industries in collaboration with GPE Expo Private Limited is holding the 10th version of the exposition.
The local manufacturers will know the latest equipment and raw materials in connection with the pharma industries at the fair, said the officials.
Nasim said the pharmaceuticals industry in Bangladesh has been growing day by day and it now meets around 98 percent of the local demand for medicines. ‘We are also exporting medicines to 145 countries including the USA, Canada, and Australia as our manufacturers are maintaining global standards in producing medicines,’ he said.
Zahid said that the expo would be a platform for the foreign businesses and local manufacturers to share knowledge and technological advancements.
He said, ‘We need medicines of world class at affordable prices so that general people can buy them.’
Around 700 medical entities from 30 countries including Bangladesh have set up stalls at the fair that will remain open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
