Health Desk-- Jan 11, 2017: Customs Intelligence officials seized a huge quantity of cancer drugs worth about Tk 75 lac at Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday.
Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Customs House Omar Momin said that acting on secret information, a team of the personnel conducted a drive and seized the medicine.
He said that Md. Sayed, a passenger of a flight of Kuwait Airways QU285, came from Kuwait at around 10.30 in the morning. On secret information, he was bought under strict monitoring but finally he left the scene leaving three bags from his possession.
Later on, his bags were explored and found 44,678 pieces of several cancer medicines worth Tk 75 lac at 12: 30pm. The name of the passenger was known from the tag number of the bags.
According to the Drug Administration law, cancer medicines should be imported by only cargo. Because, they are prohibited to import openly and they should be imported by clearance only.
He said that if they are brought open, probability of adulteration increases.
However, a letter is submitted to the immigration so that the authority can arrest Md. Sayed while he will travel again.
