Health Desk- Feb 07, 2019: Bangladesh has been elected as a member and vice president of the executive board of Unicef this year.

The announcement came after an election during the first regular session of Executive Board of Unicef 2019 at UN on Tuesday, according to a press release issued by Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to UN in New York on Wednesday.

Henrietta Fore, executive director of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund

(Unicef), and Omer Dahab Fadl Mohamed, the newly-elected president of the executive board, also the permanent representative of Sudan to the UN, addressed the opening session.

During his speech in the session, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Masud Bin Momen said Bangladesh has made considerable progress in protecting and promoting child rights.

A recent study by Unicef reveals that Bangladesh government's investments in social safety net programmes, adolescent health, and opportunities for secondary education for girls helped positively towards ending child marriage, Masud Bin Momen added.
