Concerted effort of public and private sectors is imperative to ensure availability of pure milk and build public awareness about importance of taking it, they opined.
The speakers made the remarks at a roundtable titled “Need for a glass of water daily to meet supplement to the deficiency of nutrition in human health” organised by the online news portal Banglanews24.com and Aarong Dairy.
The event was held at the conference room of the Bashundhara Industrial Headquarters-1 at the Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital on Saturday.
Prof Harun-Ur-Rashid of the Dairy Science of Bangladesh Agricultural University said children get milk at educational institutions daily at Japan and many other countries, but there is no such system in Bangladesh.
Milk is the only food which is enriched with calcium, vitamin and other nutrition, he said, suggesting people to take milk of cow, goat and buffalo which is available.
