Call to raise awareness of dementia

Health Desk- 19 April, 2019: Speakers at a programme have underscored the importance of raising awareness on dementia for improving the affected from the mental diseases.

They also call for the family support so that the affected can come in normal life.

They were addressing a seminar on dementia at Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon area on Thursday.

In association with PKSF, Bangladesh Dementia Friends’ Society and Bangladesh Medical Students’ Association jointly organised the seminar to review the latest condition of the country.

State Minister for Health and Family Planning Murad Hassain attended the programme as chief guest while PKSF Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad presided over it.

PKSF Managing Director Abdul Karim made address of welcome.

In the programme, the State Minister said the government is working along with private sector for ensuring proper treatment of dementia affected people.

Generally, dementia is an illness that affects the brain and memory and makes someone gradually lose the ability to think normally.

Around 4.6 lakh people are affected in dementia in the country in 2015 and it is expected to reach 8.3 lakh by next one decade, according to a survey.
