Health Desk—July 12, 2017: With an aim to promote awareness among the people, a seminar on Chikungunya was held at the auditorium of North South University (NSU) at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital on Tuesday.
According to a press release, prof. Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director of the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDC&R) & National Influenza Centre (NIC) Bangladesh and Prof GU Ahsan, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Designate), NSU, were the keynote speakers at the seminar.
Dr. Sabrina said there is no commercial Chikungunya vaccine.
The best way to treat the symptoms would be to get plenty of rest, drink fluids and take paracetamols to reduce fever and pain.
BSU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Designate) Prof GU Ahsan added said NSU is willing to conduct necessary workshops in effective vector control in the entire Bashundhara Residential Area to help lessen the spread of this disease.
Among others, the deans, department Chairs and students of various departments of the university participated in the seminar on the occasion.
