DNCC steps up measures to combat chikungunya: Mayor

Health Desk--- 16 July, 2017: Dhaka North City Mayor Annisul Huq on Saturday said that the city corporation has made all-out efforts to combat 'chikungunya'.

While leading an awareness rally in front of DNCC headquarters at Gulshan-2 in the capital, the DNCC Mayor said, "The city corporation has been making the best efforts to eliminate the Adees mosquitoes...It would be controlled very soon as we have declared a fight against the chikungunya".

He also apologized for his comment on chikungunya on Friday at a press conference where he said "Aedes mosquitoes breed inside people's residences as its breed in clear water. So, this is not possible for City Corporation to go inside people's homes."

"May be I failed to convey it properly...We wanted to say we don't have the right to go inside a residence. If anyone is hurt by my speech, we are sorry," he said.

Among others, A K M Rahmatullah, MP, DNCC Chief Executive officer Mesbahul Islam took part on the occasion.
