Health Desk- 13 Oct 2020: The International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) is being observed across the globe on 13 October. This year, there will be a substantial focus on public health and disease outbreaks in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The theme of the day is ‘it’s all about governance’ which is closely linked with Target E of the Sendai Framework: Substantially increase the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies by 2020.

WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a video message said, ‘To meet the challenge of the future pandemics and other emergencies, we need to work together to accelerate the implementation of international health regulations and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction among others.’
