Health Desk-- 24 November, 2018: Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed said aiming to save rivers a law should be enacted keeping a provision of death sentence for river grabbers.

He said, “In a civilised country, one can’t grab river using muscle power. We do not need uncivilised people who behave like hungry hyaenas”.

While addressing an awareness building programme against river pollution Benazir Ahmed said these.

Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall Alumni Association of Dhaka University arranged the programme at Sadarghat Launch Terminal on Friday.

The RAB chief said, “I think a tough law is needed in this regard.”

He urged the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to take steps to enact such law. The existing law carries the highest punishment of five years in jail.

Among others, the high ups of BIWTA, RAB and police officers were present on the occasion.
