Health Desk-- 20 July, 2018: Urgent step is needed to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya among people, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) said.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, IEDCR Director Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora said there is a fear that Aedes mosquito-borne diseases may spread this year due to heavy rainfall.
IEDCR director said, “In this situation, urgent steps are needed to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquito-borne diseases. The divisions concerned of the health directorate and the health ministry, including the IEDCR, Disease Control Division and Bureau of Health Education, are deeply observing the current situation and have taken necessary steps”.
Mentioning that they are getting information about the dengue infected patients from various hospitals, she said they have already got information about 680 dengue infected patients from different hospitals in the capital from January to July 18 this year but no information about the number of chikungunya patients was available during the time.
