Tongi factory boiler blast leaves 20 dead

Health Desk-- September 10, 2016: Nearly 20 workers were killed and 74 others injured in a boiler explosion at a factory in Tongi BISIC industrial area of Gazipur on Saturday morning.

Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Gazipur said that triggered by the explosion, a fire broke out at Tampaco Foils Limited around 6:15am on the very day.

Twenty units of firefighters were trying to douse the fire when the report was filed around 10:15am.

According to the sources, 17 bodies were sent to Tongi 50-bed Hospital while 3 others bodies at DMCH.

A total of 34 workers who were burnt in the incident were sent to the DMCH and around 40 admitted to the Tongi government hospital in Tongi, the medical official confirmed.  

Bachchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police camp, confirmed that 22 injured workers were taken to the hospital but three of them died later.  

However, residential surgeon of DMCH Dr Partha Sarkar Pal said that two among the injured -- Ripon Das and Dilip Das -- were sent to the burn unit of the DMCH while the others are undergoing treatment at the casualty department of DMCH.
