Health Desk-18 Dec, 2019: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Tuesday said that the city corporation will fine those who will carry out development work without environmental compliance.

RAJUK, WASA, DPDC and contractors of City Corporation who are digging up roads and carrying out development activities must do their job by protecting the environment, he said, adding that failure to comply with rules and regulations will result in fine.

In his speech, architect Iqbal Habib said, “When schools, colleges and hospitals are badly affected by sound pollution, the government has turned the secretariat area into a ‘no-horn zone’. It is not anything sensible.

“They should have declared school, college and hospital area ‘no-horn zone’.”

He urged all to discharge their duties properly to get rid of the scourge of the all kinds of pollution.

“We have to fight with whatever we have,” he said.

Those who are neglectful of their duties and incapable of carrying out their responsibilities should step aside immediately, he said.

Among others, Chairman of Poba Abu Naser Khan, President of BIP Akthar Mahmud and public health expert Dr Lenin Chowdhury spoke on the occasion.
