Health Desk-29 July, 2019: World Hepatitis Day-2019 was observed on Sunday in Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world in order to raise awareness about the deadly virus.
The theme for this year is “Invest in Eliminating Hepatitis”.
Ascertained by the World Health Organisation (WHO), World Hepatitis Day takes place every year on 28 July, with the aim of bringing the world together under one single theme in order to raise awareness of viral hepatitis and the impact it has worldwide.
The government has been implementing various programmes to create awareness among mass people and to ensure necessary medical facilities to prevent and cure the diseases.
According to WHO there are 32.5 crore people that are living with viral hepatitis in the world, yet up to 30 crore of these are unaware that they have it. Around 13.4 lakh people infected in five types of hepatitis virus die every year in the world.
To mark the day, Disease Control Division of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) took out a procession on the premises of the office on Sunday.
