Mayors should quit over rising dengue cases: Speakers

Health Desk- 13 July, 2019: Speakers at a programme on Friday said two mayors of Dhaka City Corporations should quit from their respective posts as they have failed to combat mosquito menace.

They were addressing a rally at Jatiya Press Club protesting the present dengue situation in the city.  The speakers also urged the government to take effective steps to prevent the spread of dengue and control mosquito.

In his speech in the rally, president of Sommilito Sangskritik Jote Golam Kuddus said, “Dengue situation in the city is worsening. But the authorities of two city corporations are quite indifferent to the issue and speaking irrelevantly which amounts to disrespect to their duty.”

Journalist Syed Ishtiaque Reza said, “The two mayors always talk for people’s awareness but I think the city corporations have to make themselves more aware immediately combating the mosquito menace. The city residents are enough aware”.

The senior journalist also demanded the removal of two mayors from their posts if they failed to control the situation.
