Health Desk: 19 January 2018: Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim on Wednesday said Bangladesh was towards attaining the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), repeating its success in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
"The remarkable progress in achieving MDG related health outcomes in Bangladesh created the stage from where the country is now ambitiously looking towards attaining the SDGs including Universal Health Coverage and end to inequality in health care," he said.
He said this while presiding over a session titled, 'Addressing Inequality and Ensuring Health for All' at The Bangladesh Development Forum (BDF) at a city hotel.
Nasim said, "Over the last five years, the national budget increased on an average by 16 percent per year and the Health, Population, and Nutrition sector (HPNS) budget also increased at about the same rate."
Secretary (health service division) of the ministry M Serajul Huq Khan, Secretary, Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Faiz Ahmed, Country Director of Global Affairs Canada Director of Bangladesh Development Programme Janet Durno were present, among others. Joint Chief of Health Service Division R A E M Muhiuddin Osmani presented the thematic paper.
