60-bed hospital for Rohingyas opens on Monday

Health Desk-- Oct 16, 2017: A 60-bed hospital named ‘Emergency Response Unit Field Hospital’ is going to open at Gundum under Ukhia upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Monday, to provide free medical treatment for Rohingya refugees.

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BRCS) in association with Norwegian, Finland and Japan Red Cross Society has taken the initiative to set up the hospital for Rohingyas, says a press release.

The hospital has three wards, one operation theater, two special cabins for pregnant women and a separate unit, including the exterior section.

Besides psychosocial assistance, pregnant mothers, newborn babies and cholera, diarrhoea patients will be treated here.The hospital authorities said medical treatment will be conducted by 15 doctors and 30 midwives of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital and specialist doctors.

Moreover, 25 trained volunteers of the Red Crescent Society is providing support to this hospital gradually.

A mobile medical team of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has provided free treatment to more than 4,000 patients so far. 

Alongside Rohingya refugees, local people will also be provided free treatment at the hospital.
