Health Desk---6 July, 2017: Mosquito-borne Chikungunya is spreading fast in the capital Dhaka due to lack of mosquito control activities of the authorities concerned.

Chikungunya, a mosquito-borne viral disease, has taken a serious turn in the capital and beyond due to negligence of mosquito control activities of the authorities concerned.

According to medical sources, dozens of new patients are being admitted to hospitals and clinics daily.

Sources at Directorate of Health Services on Tuesday said, some 2,000 people, including children, have, so far, been attacked with Chikungunya.

The patients were admitted to different public and private hospitals across the country.

Health experts said the number of patients with the viral flu will increase.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Health Services has opened an emergency control room to receive information about Chikungunya cases.

Doctors have been given orientation on Chikungunya so that they can diagnose the disease properly and give medication accordingly.

The disease is spreading fast as mosquito menace has increased in recent times, but the authorities concerned are not taking adequate measures to combat the menace, many said.

Mayor Syed Khokon in this connection said on Monday that Dhaka South City Corporation is working to check the Chikungunya outbreak.

However, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim said there is nothing to be worried about Chikungunya.
