Health Desk-- May 24, 2017: The number of women taking medical services during their pre and post-delivery periods became double.
The number of women taking pregnancy period medical services rose to 32 percent from 17 percent at present, a study conducted by Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS) in 2014 finds.
According to the study, a total of 62 percent couple has taken the family planning method.
During the last couple of years, the number of women taking medical services during their pre and post-delivery periods rose significantly, said, Director of Family Planning Department in Maternal Child Health (MCH) Dr Mohammad Sharif.
Since the government is committed to ensure health services of the people, the health minister said the health ministry has launched massive awareness campaign so that the pregnant women take medical services during their pre and post pregnancy periods to ensure a safe delivery.
A total of 3.1 million (31 lakh) delivery of women was carried out across the country every year and of which nearly 37.4 percent (11 lakh) delivery was conducted institutionally, the study said.
