Health Desk- 26 June, 2020: Four more doctors died from Covid-19 in Dhaka and Chattogram, taking the number of physicians dying from the infection to over 50.
The dead are Dr Saiful Islam, diabetes specialist of Al Manar Hospital in Dhaka; Dr Yunus Ali Khan, a private practitioner doctor in Sirajganj's Shahjadpur; Dr Shahidul Anwar, (retired) doctor of Chattogram Eye Infirmary hospital and Dr Firoza Begum.
Saiful passed away around 11:30pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Anwar Khan Modern Hospital in the capital, Asaduzzaman, customer care executive of Al-Manar Hospital told media.
He was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago, he said.
Yunus Ali died while undergoing treatment at Tejgaon's Impulse Hospital around 10:30am the same day, said Foundation for Doctors' Safety Rights and Responsibilities (FDSR) Joint Secretary Dr Rahat Anwar Chowdhury.
He had been practicing for 50 years in his own village at Shahjadpur after completing his studies at Rajshahi Medical College, Rahat said, adding the he did not stop treating patients during the current coronavirus crisis.
Dr Anwar breathed died around 12:00am on Thursday at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), the hospital's Principal Dr Shamim Hasan told media.
The eye specialist was a student of the 15th batch of CMCH, Shamim said adding that he died while he was in the ICU.
Dr Firoza was admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital after she tested Covid-19 positive. She died around 6:00am on Thursday , said Mily Dey, director of Bangladesh Doctors Foundation (BDF) Trust.
With the four, 51 doctors have so far died from coronavirus in the country, while eight others died with Covid-19 like symptoms, according to FDSR.
