Health Desk—August 6, 2017: The government will recruit 10,000 doctors and 40,000 employees in phases to improve the service delivery in the health sector, Health Minister Mohammed Nasim has said on Saturday.
“We talked with the prime minister about the recruitment of doctors and employees and she has given her consent to this,” he said.
The health minister disclosed the information while inaugurating the nationwide ‘Vitamin A Plus’ campaign at Shishu Hospital in city’s Agargaon.
Mentioning that the recruitment will be made in phases, Nasim said 3,000 doctors will be recruited initially to ease the shortage of doctors in rural areas.
“And the rest 7,000 doctors will be recruited at a time in the second phase. It is the commitment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to meet all the healthcare needs of people,” he said.
Addressing the inauguration of ‘Vitamin A Plus’ campaign, he urged the parents to feed their children Vitamin A capsules and deworming tablets to prevent childhood blindness, reduce child mortality and strengthen immunity system.
“We will be able to build a beautiful Bangladesh for the next generation if we can make the vaccination programme a success,” he added.Nasim said the government will set up pediatric hospitals in all districts gradually to ensure better healthcare for children.
Children, aged between six and 11 months, were given the blue-coloured high-powered Vitamin A capsules, while children, aged between 12 and 59 months, received the red-coloured ones.
