Health Desk—August 2, 2017: Health experts at an orientation and planning meeting in Rangpur called upon the parents for providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every child under the age of five to build a healthier nation.
They mentioned that Vitamin A increases disease resistant capacities of babies to ensure their normal growth, reduce death risks and prevent night blindness and other vision-related problems and corneal abrasion.
Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) has recently organised the meeting at city corporation hall room on the occasion of National Vitamin A Plus Campaign- 2017 to be held on August 5 in the city as elsewhere in the district and country as a whole.
Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu attended the meeting as the chief guest.
With Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad in the chair, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Mozammel Hossain addressed the function as special guest.
Chief Medical Officer of RpCC Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz, its Health Inspector Abdul Kaiyum, among others, addressed the meeting participated by City Councilors, health officials, supervisors and volunteers of RpCC.
Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz said 33 category-1, seven category-2 and four category-3 supervisors and 634 volunteers will provide Vitamin A Plus Capsules at 295 outreach centres in all 33 wards of the city from 8 am to 4 pm on the day.
"A total of 19,500 babies aged between six and 11 months and 1.07 lakh babies between 12 and 59 months will be administered with one dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Plus Blue Capsule and one dose of two lakh unit of Vitamin A Red Capsule each respectively," he said.
Dr Mozammel Hossain discussed about supreme importance of providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every under-five babies and said vitamin A would help the babies in preventing various diseases to ensure their normal growth.
Mayor Jhantu called upon the parents and guardians to ensure providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every child aged under five for increasing their disease resistant capacities in the process of building a healthier nation and achieving sustainable development goals.
