Lightning kills 246 in six months: Study

Health Desk- Sep 09, 2019: At least 246 people were killed and 97 injured by lightning strikes across the country in six months, according to a survey report.

According to the non-governmental Save the Society and Thunderstorm Awareness Forum the death were reported between February 1 and August 30, and included 202 were men, 30 women, six children and eight youths.

Most of the victims were killed while they were harvesting paddy, catching fishing or raising cattle in fields, it said.

Some of the victims died while sleeping in cottages, tin-shed houses and under trees.

The forum released the report at a press conference at Resourceful Paltan City building in Dhaka on Sunday.

They gathered the data from several national dailies, local dailies, online news portal and television scrolls.

Secretary General of the organization Rashim Mollah, Executive Head Abdul Alim, Vice President Shohel Rana, Executive Member Masud Rana, Govt Titumir College Member Hasnain Ahmed, Govt Bangabandhu College Member Zubair Hossain and other were present at the press conference.
