Health Desk—April 09, 2017: The fire that broke out at a warehouse of Family Planning Department in the city's Mohakhali area half an hours after midnight on Saturday night was brought under control early on Sunday morning.
Anwar Hossain, deputy assistant director (DAD) of Fire Service and Civil Defence said, "We brought the fire which was originated around 12.29am under control at around 3am on Sunday"
A huge quantity of contraceptive items such as condoms and birth control pills has been gutted in the fire; he said adding that there were no casualties to report.
"It will take more time to extinguish the fire as there are chemicals at the warehouse. But, we are trying our best to douse the flame within daylight," he also said.
Nineteen firefighting engines have been rushed to the place of occurrence at night to douse the fire, he also said.
However, the cause behind the fire and damage could not be known immediately.
