Health Desk- 29 Sep 2020:  Aiming to raise public awareness about heart disease, the World Heart Day is being observed on Tuesday (29th September) around the world.

Bangladesh has also been celebrating the day with due dignity since 2000. This year's theme of the day is 'Heart Disease Prevention'.

To mark the day, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Heart Foundation, World Health Organization and several government and non-government organizations have organized separate discussion meeting and free medical camps.

It is known that 2,77,000 people die of heart disease in Bangladesh every year, of which trans fat is responsible for 4.41 percent. Trans fat is one of the factors that increases the risk of heart disease.

Statistics show that children and women are at higher risk of heart disease. Heart disease is currently the number one fatal disease in the world.

Doctors say that it is possible to prevent heart disease by making some small changes in daily life. These changes include increasing the amount of healthy foods on your diet, leading a worry-free life, increasing physical activity, and quitting smoking.
