Health Desk-13 Sep 2019: Healthcare service providers will come under the scanners of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for checking tax evasion through verification of their deposit of tax at source to the public exchequer.
According to NBR Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiya, NBR will go for inspection of private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres across the country soon to verify the account books and income of the private healthcare service providers.
At a recent meeting, the NBR had decided to scrutinise books of accounts of the healthcare service providers to verify whether the entities properly deduct income tax at source and deposit tax in the government exchequer.
Earlier, a survey was conducted by the NBR where it was found that many hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres located in urban and rural areas are not paying income tax and hiding their actual book of account.
There are 592 hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres having tax registration in the capital.
However, there is no data on how many hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres are tax registered across the country. Excepting the capital, other healthcare service providers are paying taxes in a scattered manner under different zones elsewhere.
