Health Desk- Aug 29th, 2019: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has launched a home care service designed for Dhaka's disabled patients.
The BSMMU Vice Chancellor Dr Kanak Kanti Barua inaugurated the project on Wednesday.
A trained team of qualified doctors and nurses of BSMMU is set to provide free medical treatment to the housebound and poor patients, who reside within 20kilometers of the university, he said.
"The aim of this project is to reach out to those patients who cannot afford to leave their house or bear medical expenses," Dr Kanak said.
We have also dedicated this project to reaffirm the goal of building a poverty free Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he added.
Different organizations and individual donors sponsored the initiative after a group of doctors started this project back in 2008.
However, the official recognition from BSMMU has made this home service project a landmark in the medical history of Bangladesh, with doctors set to seek out disabled patients and provide treatment free of cost.
