Health Desk--25 Sep’18: Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Monday opened a dedicated service desk to ensure proper healthcare for unidentified patients.
The desk was inaugurated at the neurosurgery ward of CMCH. Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua, vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, was present at the inaugural ceremony as chief guest.
Prof Noman Khaled Chowdhury, head of the neurosurgery ward, said unidentified patients will receive all kinds of medical services including surgeries; they will also be given medicines unavailable at the hospital.
“We want the well-off people to come up with assistance for these helpless patients,” he said. “It is a pilot programme initiated at the neurosurgery ward; similar help desks will be opened at other wards of the hospital later.”
This noble initiative was inspired the work of a young man, Saiful Islam Nasar, who has been voluntarily attending to the unidentified patients at CMCH since 2013. For his service, he earned the name, “Friend of the Unidentified”.
CMCH Director Brig Gen Mohsen Uddin Ahmed was also present at the ceremony.
