Health Desk- April 01, 2018: A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking directives to pay Tk 1 crore as compensation to the 20 victims each who lost their eyes during treatment campaign in Chuadanga.
Supreme Court lawyer Amit Dasgupta filed the writ with the HC Sunday (April 1).
An HC bench of Justice Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir may hold the hearing of the writ, said Amit.
According to a newspaper report, 20 persons of Chuadanga suffered infection on their eyes after undergoing surgery in an eye-treatment campaign at Masudul Haque Community Health Center on March 5.
Afterwards, 19 of them had to cleave one of their eyes each, said the report.
The writ also pleaded the court to issue a rule asking why inactivity of the health center to ensure proper and safe measures during the operations won’t be declared contravened of legal authorization.
It sought a rule asking why a direction won’t be issued to compensate each of the victims with Tk 1 crore.
It also urged for taking proper legal action against the concerned authority of the hospital and the physician.
