Health Desk-- 20 November, 2017: The physicians of Orbis on Sunday screened some 100 eye patients, including adults and children in Chittagong.
Of the patients, some 40 will be selected finally for treatment and surgery for disease like cataract (phaco), paediatric cataract, strabismus, medical retina and retinopathy of prematurity as part of the two-week training programme of Orbis’s Flying Eye Hospital (FEH).
In the second phase of the programme, some 100 more patients will also be screened and 40 of them will be picked for treatment and surgery at the FEH and Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex (CEITC) - the largest non-government eye hospital in this region at Pahartali in the port city.
The voluntary eye doctors, including Dr Maury Marmor of the USA, Dr Peter Kertes of Canada, Dr Suhas Haldipurkar and Dr Ramesh Kekunnaya of India examined the patients selected by the CEITC on Sunday.
The FEH officials said the prescheduled training sessions and surgery of the selected patients will be started simultaneously at the CEITC and FEH, onboard an MD-10 aircraft staying at Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport on Monday.
