Countdown begins for ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Day’

Health Desk—July 03, 2017: Breast Cancer Awareness Day will be observed for the fifth time on October 10, 2017.

The 100-day countdown and preparatory meeting was held on Sunday in Cancer Epidemiology Department of National Cancer Research Institute chaired by the chief coordinator of the forum and head of Cancer Epidemiology Department Dr Habibullah Talukder Raskin. 

'Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum', consisting 19 non-government voluntary organizations- including BSMMU, Cancer Institute- have been observing this day since 2013.

The objective of the observation is to create awareness among women of the country about risks, reasons and symptoms of breast cancer, screening and diagnosing it at primary stage through testing self and inspire them in regard of this disease.

It has earned acceptability among cancer patients, survivors, social workers and media through holding colorful 'pink road procession', distributing booklets in plain Bengali and organizing workplace-based camps. Elaborate programs have been taken across the country to spread the message of awareness in a louder way.
