Writ petition seeks refund for patients cheated by Regent

Health Desk-27 July, 2020: A rights organisation on Sunday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking its directives on the authorities concerned to refund the money and fees received from the patients who were cheated by Regent Hospital in the name of Covid-19 test and treatment.

Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation (CCBF), represented by its director Advocate Ishrat Hasan, lodged the petition as a public interest litigation through email.

The petitioner also requesting the court to order the authorities to give Tk 25,000 as an interim relief to each of the patients victimised by the hospital.

In the petition, the rights body prayed to the HC to ask the health and home secretaries, director general of Directorate General of Health Services and and managing director of Regent Hospital to make a list of the persons, who got fake certificates from the hospital and to publish a list of the names of the hospitals and diagnostic centres that have legal licence to conduct Covid-19 tests.

Barrister Md Abdul Halim, submitted the petition to the HC as the lawyer of the rights organisation, also requested the court to direct the authorities to take necessary measures to monitor the activities of the hospitals and diagnostic centres at the upazila level, regarding the test and treatment for patients.
