Bangla VersionHealth Desk- Jan 18, 2019: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a suspected drug peddler with 54 kilograms of cannabis and 5,210 pieces of Yaba tablet fromChittagong Bakolia area on early Thursday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Selim, 44, son of late Dudh Mia of village Nagarpod under Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla district.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Media) Mimtanur Rahman of the Rab-7, Chittagong said acting on a tip-off, they set up a check-post in front of Ahad Convention Hall under Bakolia police station.
Rab-men signaled a Bakolia-bound microbus for its suspicious movement at the check-post around 2:15am, he said.
At one stage, Selim tried to flee after parking the microbus at the spot, the Rab officer said.
Later, Rab-men arrested the drug peddler after a chase, he said adding that 54 kilograms of cannabis and 5,210 pieces of Yaba tablet were also recovered searching the vehicle.
A case was filed accusing the arrestee with the concerned police station in this connection, Mimtanur added.
