‘Zero tolerance against drug’

Health Desk: 11 March 2018: Newly appointed Chittagong Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Elius Hossain said he will show ‘zero tolerance’ stance against use and trade of drug in Chittagong.

The DC also assured of starting eviction drive on the both banks of the river Karnaphuli soon.

He said these while addressing a view exchange meeting on overall development of the district with journalists at Chittagong Circuit House on Saturday.

In his speech, the new DC said the government services will have to be brought to door-step of people for reaping benefit from them.  The Upazila Nirbahi Officers and other concerned officials were given directive to work for people with innovative ideas to make the facilities more effective, he said.

Elius, who also worked as additional deputy commissioner in Chittagong earlier, said he is aware of the problems regarding the encroachment and pollution to the river Karnaphuli and Halda, and the long-drawn hill-slide and waterlogging problems in Chittagong.

Steps will taken soon for eviction drive on the banks of the river Karnaphuli following directive of the High Court, he said.

Replying to a query, he said two more schools will be developed in the city to cope with the huge demand of the students.Three bus and truck terminals will also be developed in the city, said the DC.
