Health Desk—November 09, 2017: Speakers at a seminar have called for raising awareness to build a society free from dowry, reports UNB.
They came up with the view while addressing a seminar organised by Anjumane Rojobhia Nuria Bangladesh, an anti-dowry organization, at Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Wednesday.
The speakers said that to overcome the dowry problem, women’s education should be expanded more.
They said people who intend to take dowry must be made to feel that dowry is a condemnable activity in the eyes of society.
Alleging that the government’s law on the issues are not being implemented properly, they strict steps to implement the laws and end child labour and child abuse.
They also urged the government and non-government organizations to work together to eradicate this system from society.
Mentioning that media can play an important role in ending the dowry system, they urged media outlets to create social movement against dowry.
They also urged inclusion of dowry problems and remedies in the curriculum of schools and colleges.
Member of the Awami League’s advisory council Mozaffar Hossain Paltu and central chairman of the organisation Abul Kashem Nuri, spoke, among others on the occasion.
