Health Desk--August 11, 2017: Intern doctors at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) on Thursday locked the gate of emergency unit for around an hour demanding withdrawal of an assault case filed by an attendant against one of their fellows.

They unlocked the gate following intervention of SBMCH Director Dr Sirajul Islam, accirdubg to the hospital sources.

Earlier the intern doctors gathered at the director's room and demonstrated.

On Monday, three people -- Jamal Sardar, 35, a Union Parisad member; Zahid Sardar, 30, and Alamin Sardar, 25, Jamal's brother -- were admitted to the hospital after they were hacked by their rivals, said Dr Raju Ahmed, president of Intern Doctors Association of SBMCH.

On that night, during an operation on Jamal, his attendants assaulted Dr Saiful Azim following a dispute over stay near the operation theatre.

Later, doctors handed over an attendant, Tawhidul Islam, to Kotwali police and Saiful filed a case against him. But Tawhidul's wife Jannat Ara on Wednesday filed another case against Saiful and 59 others unnamed accusing them of beating her husband.
