Health Desk—June 13, 2017: The speakers in a workshop on Monday said child marriage must be stopped to flourish latent talents and leadership of the girl children for attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The observation came at a workshop styled 'Role of marriage registrars and matchmakers in preventing child marriage' held at the LAMB Office in Gangachara upazila town in Rangpur.
LAMB under its Adolescent Advancing Health (A2H) project organised the workshop with financial assistance of the USAID and technical cooperation of Plan International Bangladesh (PAB) for marriage registrars, matchmakers, Imams and Purohits of Gangachara upazila.
Representative of LAMB Uttam Kumar Sarker presided over the workshop and delivered welcome speech narrating goals and objectives of the A2H project and activities being conducted under in building a child marriage free society.
Filed Facilitator at Gangachara upazila office of LAMB Anjuman Ara Begum as the resource person took part in the workshop moderated by its MIS Coordinator Chandra Kishore Roy.
Anjuman Ara Begum said early marriage leads the adolescents to shattered and catastrophic lives destroying their education, talent, future and causing neonatal, maternal and children deaths in rural areas.
Uttam Kumar Sarker called upon the participants for preventing child marriage through ensuring marriage registration and checking national identity cards properly in building a happier society by attaining all targets of the SDGs.
