Health Desk: May 28, 2017: Yaba is entering the country from neighbouring Myanmar through more than 45 border points of Cox’s Bazaar, sources at the Narcotics Control Directorate said.
Consignments of the drug are also being smuggled into the country from India through Benapole, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Godagari of Rajshahi, Shibganj of Chapainawabganj, Hili of Dinajpur, Panchbibi of Joypurhat, Shapahar of Naogaon and Hatibandha of Nilphamari.
Exploiting the shortcomings in the vigilance by the law enforcers, organised drug smugglers have built up a strong network in Dhaka’s underworld to sell yaba, detective sources confirmed.
Some local heads in the bordering points having political links and a section or corrupt law enforcers are also involved in the illegal drug trade, sources said.
Mentionable that many smugglers have recently been arrested with yaba tablets along the border and sent to jail by the law enforcers. But most of the drug smugglers come out of jail on bail within a few days and get back to drug smuggling.
