Health Desk- 27 Nov 2020: Ekushey Padak-winning stage and TV actor, director Aly Zaker has passed away at Dhaka's United Hospital at 6:45am on Friday.
He was being treated for Covid-19. Earlier, on November 17, he was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital due to cardiac issues.
Aly Zaker was battling cancer for the last four years.
His son Iresh Zaker wrote on Facebook, ‘We are grateful to everyone who kept him in their prayers’. ‘His namaz-e-janaza will be held after Asr prayers today (Friday) at the Banani Graveyard Mosque,’ he added.
Aly Zaker was born on November 6, 1944 in Chattogram to Muhammad Taher and Rezia Taher.
He spent his early childhood in Kushtia and Madaripur. His father was a high-ranking government official.
He studied at Notre Dame College and graduated from the University of Dhaka.
Aly Zaker served as a freedom fighter in the Liberation War.
In 1972, Aly Zaker joined Aranyak Natya Dal. His first stage appearance was in the troupe's rendition of the Munier Chowdhury play ‘Kabor’. He will remain alive in the heart of many fans and followers for his tremendous art works.
He married eminent theatre personality Sara Zaker in 1975 and they have a son Iresh Zaker and daughter Sriya Sharbojoya.
Aly Zaker was the recipient of Ekushey Padak, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award, Bangabandhu Award, Munier Chowdhury Award, Naren Biswas Award, among other accolades.
